Tanabata 「七夕」or Qixi Festival (Chinese)

Tanabata 「七夕」or Qixi Festival (Chinese) is the festival of stars in Japan which is traditionally celebrated every 7th day of the 7th month. The story behind the festival is about the stars Vega and Altair, the festival marks the once-yearly meeting of Orihime (Vega), the weaver star and patron of silk farming, and Hikoboshi (Altair), the cowherd star and agricultural messenger. During the celebration strips of colorful paper, vibrant ornaments, and other decorations are hung on bamboo branches. Later, ‘tanzaku’ are inscribed with a wish and hung on the branches. Our students and visitors hung their wishes like happiness for the whole family, a successful career and more.
